Sun Resorts nurturing home-grown talent

Sun Resorts is best known for its iconic hotels in Mauritius and Maldives and its commitment to high quality service, but behind the scenes the business also works to encourage and support local talent as part of its growing team of 3700 employees.

Sun Resorts nurturing home-grown talent

Sun Resorts recognises locally grown talent and is pleased to announce the promotion of Viren Govinda Chetty as Resort Manager of Sugar Beach Resort & Spa as from 01 January 2016.

Married to Vanessa and father of 2 kids of 8 and 6 who has just turned 40, Viren holds a BSC (Hons) in Economics from the University of Mauritius. Viren was promoted Executive Assistant Manager in 2013 and now in his new role, he will assist Nicolas de Chalain, General Manager and will be responsible for the day-to day running by managing all segments of the resort.

Viren is a Sun Resorts success story with an 18-year career. Coming from Caroline, Bel Air Rivière Sèche, Viren joined the company as a trainee in 1997 for an internship in Human Resource department at Le Touessrok and never left! In 1998, Sun Resorts sponsored his 1-year Diploma in Hotel Management at Hotel School of Mauritius in Partnership with Hotel School of Singapore (SHATEC). This allowed him to develop his skills as Quality Assurance Manager as from June 1999. He held several positions before joining Sugar Beach in 2005 as Food & Beverage Manager to culminate into this well-deserved promotion.

Viren is a lover of fine wine and is sensitive to refinement. He is the only one who has been twice the recipient of the General Manager Award.

Trainer qualified by MQA, certified auditor for ISO 9001 and trainer for Micros Fidelio, Viren defines himself as a leader, a fighter and a man of challenge. Viren is an excellent example of how individual potential can be fulfilled with the right opportunities, hard work, dedication and commitment. These work ethics are in line with Sun Resorts’ core values: Play as a Team, Do the Right Thing and Keep Adding Value.

“I’m very proud to work for Sun Resorts over the years and I’m thankful that they recognise the importance of the role I’ve played and today it has been demonstrated in offering me this long-term opportunity as Resort Manager”, has declared Viren.

“This is a recognition of Sun resorts local talent pool and our commitment to create career opportunities for our people. I believe that Viren has the necessary qualifications, drive by passion to fulfill his new responsibilities to grow further in his new role” said Nicolas de Chalain, General Manager of Sugar Beach Resort & Spa.

“At Sun Resorts, we work with many local talent. We do recognise the importance of the role we play in offering long-term opportunities to individuals who wish to develop their career in Sun Resorts. We are mindful of the need to attract and retain talents within our country and it gives us great reassurance that we are developing future leaders that will contribute to the growth of our business and the hospitality sector at large” adds Annsha Taukoordass, Group Human Resource Director.
