    Foxtoberfest at Sugar Beach

    September 23 2019

For discerning travellers who enjoy all things extraordinary and unusual, there’s no hotel quite like the gorgeous five-star Sugar Beach, which lines the idyllic sunset coast of Mauritius. The grand, beachside plantation-style hotel is enhanced by thoughtful design elements, breathtaking French-inspired gardens, sophisticated touches and stellar service—it’s little wonder that this tropical haven is hugely popular amongst families and couples looking to soak up the magic of Mauritius.

Another reason that Sugar Beach is a sought-after holiday hideaway is that it’s known as an entertainment hot spot, offering exclusive events, novel shows and unparalleled experiences throughout the year that draw in both visitors and locals. And for those who are eager to witness one of these fabled events for themselves, the upcoming Foxtoberfest is definitely not to be missed.

Have we piqued your interest? Then this is what you need to know about Foxtoberfest at Sugar Beach:

Sugar Beach + The Thirsty Fox + Oktoberfest = Foxtoberfest

The idea of a unique rendition of the legendary Oktoberfest was born out of a special idea; a fantastic celebration at Sugar Beach in partnership with The Thirsty Fox, a new Mauritian craft beer brand. This event will have all the best parts of the German-inspired Oktoberfest (think phenomenal Bavarian food, games and, of course, Dirndl for women and Lederhosen for men) with a decent dose of island-inspired elements, and of course, Mauritian craft beer!

Foxtoberfest will take place towards the end of September Traditionally, Oktoberfest is a German folk festival that runs from 21 September to 6 October and centres on all things Deutsch. Every year, thousands of people head to Oktoberfest, dressed up for the occasion in festive traditional outfits, eager to make the most of the attractions, a funfair (which is typically on) and, naturally, good beer. Despite the copious amounts of beer available (it’s said that approximately 6 million litres of beer are consumed every year at Oktoberfest), the Germans also have fun activities arranged for all ages, so it—and the Sugar Beach edition—ensures that there’s something for each member of the family.

To coincide somewhat with the traditional version, Foxtoberfest will run from the 27th of September to the 29th of September 2019 and promises to be a spectacular experience for all. There will be something a little different planned each day

The much-anticipated Foxtoberfest will run for three fabulous, fun-filled days, but each will be slightly different! Here’s what the festival has in store for visitors this September:

Friday the 27th of September — Buddha-Bar Beach tasting and live music On Friday the 27th of September, the festivities will kick off at Buddha-Bar Beach at 17:00, with the opening ceremony of Foxtoberfest—inspired by that of a typical Oktoberfest—centring on the official (and symbolic) opening of not only the first barrel of the festival, but a special, limited edition beer barrel. It will be opened by The Thirsty Fox’s Master Brewer (who will be dressed for the occasion in typical Bavarian clothing) and accompanied by a live People of the Sun music event on the beach headed up by the talented Eric Triton (who will start performing around 17:30). Those who would like to indulge in a memorable experience at the fabulous Buddha-Bar Beach can enjoy a specially created a beer and food pairing experience (for Rs1500) but we recommend booking ahead to secure your spot if this is something that you would like to do. There will also be a photo booth where kids can get a photo with a fox wearing traditional Oktoberfest clothing and they can really get into the spirit by getting a fox (such as the one on the Thirsty Fox logo) painted onto their faces.

Admission is free for the live music event, but places are limited, so it’s best to book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Saturday the 28th of September — Gossip UltraBeach Episode 13 featuring DJ Gladis Beach Party On Saturday the 28th of September, Foxtoberfest will take the form of a beach party with a host of competitions and entertainment throughout the day and evening. The day’s activities will begin at 15:00 and continue until 23:00. Great games* the likes of which will include Beer Golf, Hi-Striker and Spin the Bottle will be on the programme, the winners of which will walk away with The Thirsty Fox goodies as well as incredible discounts from Sugar Beach. The theme for the day is “Come alone or in a group and try to be the first to quench the ‘Fox thirst’”. At The Thirsty Fox corner, there will be a discovery workshop of typical Bavarian dishes as well as a beer and tapas tasting. Once again, there will be fox face painting for the children, and DJ Gladis from Italy will entertain throughout the day. You don’t want to miss out on Foxtoberfest’s day two! At 17:30 there will be another opening ceremony with the Master Brewer of The Thirsty Fox.

Sunday 29th September — Sunday Family Brunch at Buddha-Bar Beach Gather your loved ones and indulge in a fabulous family brunch to celebrate the last day of Foxtoberfest (priced at Rs2500 per person, including a Thirsty Fox beer). The theme of the day is “Come and brunch with the Fox” with a Thirsty Fox lounge which will offer beer on tap or the option of a beer flight (which allows you to sample the array of beers on offer). Kids will be able to take pictures with the fox in the photo booth and have their faces painted—the Foxtoberfest will be a truly unique island experience. If you would like to find out more about this “foxtastic” event or would like to book your spot to ensure you don’t miss out, then get in touch with us. Remember, many of the event’s spaces are limited and trust us, this is not a Mauritian experience you will want to miss! *Please note: no games will force participants to consume alcohol, but will instead work with a points system. The proceeds from the participant fees (approximately Rs50 per play) will be given as donations to SUNCARE.
