From the exotic, wild magic of Belle Mare to vibrant capital Port Louis and the dazzling sunsets in Flic-en-Flac, the tropical idyll of Mauritius is quite literally the stuff of dreams. Apart from being a sensational island paradise, it's a destination enhanced by a rich culture, fascinating history and a wealth of exceptional activities, ranging from popular water sports to luxury offerings. More than this, however, it’s also fast becoming recognised for being a world-class golfing destination, where avid fans are able to marvel at the unrivalled surrounds while playing unique and oftentimes wonderfully challenging courses.
Because of its status as a phenomenal destination with burgeoning golf offerings, Mauritius proved a place for a special International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) Fam Trip, hosted by Sun Resorts in collaboration with local destination management company, Sega Tours, where those in the industry were afforded an unparalleled opportunity to better acquaint themselves with this dazzling destination.
To give you a bit more information about Sega Tours, here’s what Isla de Casanove, the Senior Manager had to say about the company:
“SEGA Tours Indian Ocean, founded in 2010, is a member of the AIOM (Association of Inbound Operators of Mauritius), IAGTO, SATOA, ATTA and XO private, and is the only boutique inbound company in Mauritius - known for providing tailor-made services and products to the mid and high-end segments in Mauritius and also in other Indian Ocean islands namely in Reunion, Seychelles, Mayotte, Maldives, Madagascar and Rodrigues. We specialise in tailor-made packages for FIT’s, golf groups, leisure groups and MICE, and in cruise ships’ ground handling”.
With all that in mind, this is what the IAGTO Fam Trip in 2019 entailed:
There were 13 esteemed guests
The Mauritius IAGTO Fam Trip that took place in May 2019 centred on exceptional experiences with the most sublime of backdrops in Mauritius for 13 esteemed members from IAGTO, who hailed from 10 different countries. The countries that were represented during the trip were as follows: Bulgaria, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Poland, the Netherlands and Finland. The wonderfully diverse group enhanced an already extraordinary trip.
They were given the opportunity to relish a stay at two Sun Resorts properties
As part of the programme, guests were given the chance to revel in true Sun Resorts hospitality at two of its finest five-star golfing resorts; Long Beach and Sugar Beach.
Long Beach, situated along the phenomenal and exotic east coast of the island, is a chic haven, where modern amenities are enhanced by wild, tropical surrounds and lush gardens. The perfect hotel for active couples or families, there’s a wealth of incredible activities to enjoy here, which range from SUP and an array of water sports to guided walks on the endemic trail, wall climbing sessions, yoga and much more. It’s five restaurants offer exquisite dining opportunities and the expansive beach and world-class spa provide excellent places to unwind, all of which the guests of the IAGTO Fam Trip were able to enjoy with four nights at this wonderfully modern hotel.
The other three nights of the week-long trip were spent among French manicured gardens, coconut palm trees and breathtaking surrounds at the unbelievable plantation-style Sugar Beach, perfectly situated on the gorgeous west coast of Mauritius. The meeting place of old-world charm and modern luxuries, Sugar Beach is a phenomenal retreat, where guests of the trip were able to make the most of signature offerings, water sports and dining outlets.
Given that the guests stayed along both the sunrise and the sunset coast (Long Beach and Sugar Beach respectively), they were also able to embrace the Sunrise/Sunset Timeless Memory offering, unique to Sun Resorts hotels. From sunrise kayaking to memorable sunset SUP and more, there's a great selection of fabulous experiences to enjoy at the Sun Resorts hotels, tinged by the glorious colours of the sun.
The guests were able to fully discover the golfing paradise that is Mauritius
One of the main aims of the trip was to ensure these esteemed IAGTO guests were able to fully embrace Mauritius as a golfing destination. As such, they were given the opportunity to play on some of the island’s finest courses, such as Anahita Golf Club, Legend Golf Course, Avalon Golf Club, Heritage Golf Club, Tamarina Golf Club and the iconic Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club (which is also managed by Sun Resorts). With spectacular, oftentimes sea-facing, holes, perfect greens and unparalleled tropical surrounds, these are sure to have been rounds the participants will never forget.
As part of the full golfing experience, the 13 participants were also treated to the signature golfer’s massage at the Cinq Mondes Spa; with the help of the world-famous Cinq Mondes products at the incredible expertise of the therapists, participants were able to rest their weary muscles after a sublime day of golf alongside some pros.
Unforgettable rounds of golf in Mauritius (as well as the excellent golfer’s massages) are certainly not reserved for those on trips such as these, however. Avid golfers eager to enjoy sublime rounds in paradise should know that Sun Resorts has partnered with Anahita Golf Club, Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club and Tamarina Golf Club to ensure that all golfing guests staying at their hotels have golf experiences that last a lifetime. There are fabulous golfer-only experiences (such as the massages which are available at the Cinq Mondes Spas) and special golf offers available to guests as well.
The guests were treated to a number of sensational experiences and events
Apart from those already mentioned, the IAGTO Fam Trip included a number of spectacular events and experiences, further highlighting Mauritius and of course, the Sun Resorts hotels themselves, as sensational holiday and golf destinations. One such event took place at Ambre, the stunning tropical four-star, adults-only resort along the east coast of Mauritius. Guests were given the afternoon to make the most of the atmosphere and lively ambience of Ambre, after which aperitives were served while live music played and signature cocktails served (some of which were served in coconuts!). Guests were then invited to a Tropical Evening dinner, a sublime private dinner hosted in an exclusive part of the property, a stone’s throw from the water’s edge - this was truly an experience to remember.
Participants were also treated by Sega Tours to a dreamy sunset cruise on the west coast, a phenomenal, specially created tasting menu at Long Beach’s prestigious Hasu restaurant, accompanied by a magical Marshmallow and Rhum experience, and a dreamlike evening spent at Sugar Beach’s Buddha-Bar Beach, overlooking the sunset-tinged beach and the azure Indian Ocean.
The trip ended with a memorable farewell dinner at Sugar Beach’s Citronella’s Café, where there was also an exciting prize-giving ceremony naming the winners of the competitions played throughout the trip. The results were as follows:
- Men’s 1st Place – Steve McDowall - Atlantic Golf Holidays Ltd - UK
- Men’s 2nd Place – Filip Dohnálek - IBTravel s.r.o. – Czech Republic

The trip was a fabulous success
The trip was a wonderful way for participants to better understand just how phenomenal a golfing destination the tropical volcanic island of Mauritius actually is. The participants were welcomed by the Tourism office (MTPA) to see that Mauritius offers a huge array of activities of every kind - from sightseeing opportunities and mouthwatering local and international culinary experiences to water sports, outdoor activities and world-class golf - making it a sensational destination on all levels. In fact, on top of the unforgettable sunset cruise, Sega Tours organised a visit of the fabled Rhumerie of Chamarel as well as a magnificent sightseeing trip of the southern part of Mauritius, famous for its dense green vegetation and waterfalls - allowing participants to witness many of Mauritius’ diverse wonders.
Here’s what Sun Resorts’ Priscilla Guranna, Sales & Marketing Manager of Golf had to say about the trip and Mauritius as a golf destination:
“Sun Resorts has been delighted to host the IAGTO Fam Trip in Mauritius. The participants, from different parts of Europe, had the opportunity to discover the uniquely diverse properties of Sun Resorts on the east and west coast as well as to experience a maximum of golf courses combined with sight-seeing tours. Recently, Mauritius has been awarded, for the second time, the Golf Destination of the Year for Africa and the Gulf States by IAGTO and this certainly proved the willingness of the public and private sectors to place Mauritius on the golfing map and drive more tourist golfers to the island. There’s no doubt that with 9 prestigious golf courses, designed by renowned golfers, Mauritius is definitely a golfing paradise”.
